World Studies

Our World Studies curriculum at Key Stage 3 develops pupils’ curiosity and confidence across Science, Computing, and Humanities, building essential skills each year through practical learning, research, and exploration.

Year 7 – Foundations for Discovery

Pupils begin by exploring the world around them through hands-on science, digital literacy, and historical and geographical awareness.

  • Science: Building simple circuits, classifying materials, observing natural phenomena, and learning lab safety.

  • Computing: Researching and presenting ideas safely using digital tools.

  • Humanities: Investigating key historical events (WWII, Ancient Egypt, Great Fire of London), basic geography, and local fieldwork.

Year 8 – Expanding Knowledge and Application

Pupils deepen their understanding through investigation, creativity, and real-world links.

  • Science: Conducting practical experiments, recording data, and exploring forces, temperature, and sound.

  • Computing: Developing digital projects, including programming, photography, and presentations.

  • Humanities: Studying history through themes such as Kings and Queens and global issues like sustainability, supported by local trips.

Year 9 – Independent Inquiry and Critical Thinking

Pupils refine their skills through independent study and advanced inquiry.

  • Science: Applying scientific and mathematical principles to topics like ecology, motion, and chemistry.

  • Computing: Leading independent coding and research projects.

  • Humanities: Engaging in deeper global and local investigations, critical source evaluation, and extended research projects.
